Set Timex 1440 Sports watch

Couldn't find this anywhere on the web (the instruction manual for this watch does not match the watch). After many, many attempts I finally figured it out:

Press and hold the mode button for a few seconds, then, press the mode button again!

The 'set' button then changes the value while the 'start/stop' button will advance to the next thing to set.

Set the Timex 1440 Sports Watch (wr50m) Magnetism watch

hold down the "mode" button for 2 seconds. When the digits on the watch face start to blink, then press the "mode" button again. To change the hours, press the "adjust button". [instructions thanks to a comment below]

To turn the alarm off:

Press and hold "set."
At the same time press (and hold?) "start/stop."
You will see the alarm bell icon go away.

Also, see wiki.answers post for more details.

THANK YOU!!! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your sharing this information! Trying to reset my 1440 has been driving me crazy! This was truly useful knowledge -- again, many many thanks!

Thanks it took me a long time to find this site. The others I tried didn't have the correct instructions.

Phew! Thank you so much! You saved my sanity.

thank you so much for posting, finally instructions that actually match my watch.

Even TIMEX's website does not have the correct instructions for this watch ! Thanks for sharing !!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been trying to figure this out for years!

I figured it out after some trial and error - you don't name the "adjust" button as the way to advance the hour. That is what I (and evidently others) needed to know. Thanks for telling me about the "mode" part. I wish Timex would get their s*** together and fix this on their website. I called them once and got a very nasty woman who treated me like I was a total imbecile for not being able to reset my watch after Daylight Savings Time.

Hi All,
Just to add to the onslaught of comments here...
1. first off, thank you for the post! Timex definitely is really unhelpful and I am glad that you could figure out and then share via the internet
2. If you want to change the time for a Timex 1440 Sports Watch (wr50m) Magnetism watch, hold down the "mode" button for 2 seconds. When your the digits on the watch face start to blink, then press the "mode" button again. To change the hours, press the "adjust button".

Hope that helps for anyone else that was stumped (I was for at least 2 weeks)...sweet...

Now does anyone know how to get the alarm to stop resetting every time it goes off? The ST./Stop will get it to stop, but it will still go off the next day. I don't see any instructions anywhere that show how to get the alarm to turn off and stay off.

Thanks so much, the instructions were not for my watch, similar but not the same. I felt stupid about the watch until I saw how many other people were going crazy too. I searched several sites until I found this one.

Setting the Timex 1440 Sports WR50M T5G891:

This model (WR50M) has four buttons, from left to right, top to bottom: 1) Set; 2) Start/Stop; 3) Mode; and 4) Indiglo.

To set or change the time:

Press and hold Set and Start/Stop simultaneously; the seconds will start to blink

Release both buttons

Use Mode button to toggle through to Hours, Minutes, etc.

When desired number (such as Hours/Minutes) starts to blink, use Start/Stop button to change number

When done, hit Set

The August 1st post worked for us, other instructions didn't. Thank you,I was going to take the watch back, didn't even come with instructions.

I've found this site very helpful, as the official instructions don't seem to say much. My daughter has this watch, and somehow something has got set so that it beeps on the hour every hour. Anyone have any idea how to turn that off?

This is helpful info, however, I still have no idea how to set or unset daily alarm and hourly chime. My version of the watch has 4 buttons. Indigo, ST/Stp,Lap/reset,and mode. It also has a tiny window for each day of the week along the top of the curved face and another small round window labelled "alarm and chime".
I am able to set the alarm but cannot turn it off. Cannot figure out the hourly chime function either. Can anyone help with this?

I too can not get the alarm off-- if anyone figures it out please post :)

Ok i finally figured out how to turn the alarm off if you have the watch with the 4 buttons (mode, stop/start, adjust, and indiglo)

First look at your watch and see if it has the alarm (little bell) and hour chime(which looks like a pacman)

If it has both

1.hold down the adjust button and press the start/stop button twice

If it has just the hour chime

1. hold down the adjust button and press the start/stop button three times

Here's a little tidbit about the obnoxious Timex 1440 Sports watch...

TO TURN THE ALARM OFF:
Press and hold "set."
At the same time press (and hold?) "start/stop." You will see the alarm bell icon go away.

GRRRR...

Thank you SO much - I was thinking I'd have to buy a new watch just to be able to turn it back for Daylight Savings Time. SO glad you posted this!

I have the purple one. On the timex web site...they show the green one...every button on the picture...different than the one I have. The indiglo is on the wrong side...the mode button doesn't say mode...etc. it was off by 3 mins....as a schoolbus driver that lives on a min by min time schedule...that was driving me bats. So I started wearing my dress watch...numbers on it...too small to use while driving. So I dug the 1440 back out and mentally subtracted 3 mins from every glance at it. Problem...sometimes I'd forget and end up 3 mins early to a stop and having to go back. Then you go to owners manuel...its wrong. Ack! Went to several websites...also wrong. This site...right instructions. Keep up the good work. Thanks so much.

THANK YOU so very much! Every time I need to Spring forward or Fall back I dread figuring out how to change this damn watch. Now I have your site bookmarked. Remember when "Timex" meant quality and reliability?

24 hr time:

to change the setting from 24 hr to 12 hr time, press 'mode' and 'set' at the same time. On my daughter's watch, 'mode' is upper left and 'set' is lower right.

Thank you for the instructions for changing the chime and time.

GOSH, this Timex is so difficult to set. I just about smashed it..then I found your website.

I had to chime in and thank you for saving some small bit of sanity. I could not figure out how to disable the alarm that wen off every day at 19:00.

Unlike the many Timex watches I've had that died within a year this watch keeps on ticking. In some random box in the closet. Every day I would endure the alarm. I finally found the watch and was unable to disable the alarm. Maddening. Thanks so much for instuctions that worked.

This was so helpful! I spent an hour trying to play with it to change the time. No other website I tried had these correct instructions, especially since this watch is about 10 years old now!
